Parenthood is one of the most beautiful things we as human beings can experience. It’s also to most exhausting. No one tells you that you start to lose your identity. They don’t tell you how to navigate keeping your sense of self while being a good parent. So that’s what we’re talking about today. How to remain yourself through it all.

Keep Your Goals

Just because you’re a parent now doesn’t mean your dreams and aspirations don’t matter anymore. Priorities shift, but they don’t go away. It’s ok to dream a little, even if you’re a parent.

Make Time for Yourself

This isn’t always easy but it’s so important. There will always be a million things that need to get done but those can wait. You will be a better parent if you continue to prioritize yourself.

Get a Hobby

When I first became a parent I felt like all I did was take care of the baby. Playing music again and making art really allowed me to let my creativity flow and feel like myself again.

Feel Emotions

You aren’t going to be a perfect parent all the time and the pressure to be one weights on us, especially right at the beginning. Allow yourself to feel. Cry once in a while. Let the emotions out and don’t hold them all in.

Connect to Your Partner and Friends

There is no one better than the people who love you most to remind you of who you are. Your partner and friends are there to support you through this journey and can be an incredible resource.

Cheers to parenthood,
