Congrats Wisconsin FFA Winners!

Winners for National FFA Agriscience Fair – Animal Systems, Food Products, and Processing Systems

The National FFA Agriscience Fair recognizes students who gain real-world, hands-on experiences in agricultural enterprises. Students use scientific principles and emerging technologies to solve complex problems related to agriculture, food, and natural resources. The agriscience fair is for middle and high school students. Students compete in one of six categories in the agriscience fair and under one of the six divisions — either individually or in a team.

The Wisconsin winner is Owen Hemling of the Beaver Dam FFA Chapter in Wisconsin in Animal Systems: Division 5.

Proficiency Award Winners Named During National FFA Convention & Expo

Agricultural proficiency awards honor FFA members who, through Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students compete in areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Proficiency awards are also recognized at local and state levels and provide recognition to members exploring and becoming established in agricultural career pathways.

Awards were announced for eight of the 45 categories so far. Here are the Wisconsin winners:

Goat Production – Entrepreneurship/Placement

Ava Nicole Medo of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood FFA in Wisconsin had an SAE project that included assisting on the family’s 750-head commercial dairy goat farm, Medo Dairy Goats. Medo is confident in her ability to identify illness and treat it properly and in her ability to assist a doe who is having difficulty birthing. Medo oversees the welfare of the herd and provides useful input to improve the operation. Medo is supported by parents, Matthew and Angela, and FFA advisor Matthew Christian.

Beef Production – Placement

Hannah Oleson of the Adams-Friendship FFA

Entrepreneurship

Marshall Kleiman of the Granton FFA

Career And Leadership Events

CDEs and LDEs test the abilities of individuals and teams in 25 major areas of agricultural instruction. Youth travel from across the country to participate at the national level. Through intense hands-on activities, FFA members are asked to perform specific career skills that will help them develop technical knowledge, decision-making, reasoning, and more. Industry professionals serve as judges so that the participants can see how they would perform in actual careers.
